Stay somewhere else

Lose yourself in the hidden wilds of Tasmania’s cantilevered corners. One of the island’s only, true beachfront holiday escapes, stretching right up to the sands.

Absolute beachfront accommodation, one hour’s drive from Hobart.

Elsewhere is a two-bedroom, “off-grid” home, accommodating a family of four - or serving as a luxury escape for just two. It is just a 45km drive from the Tasmanian capital city of Hobart, but you’ll feel like you’re hundreds of miles away.

The expansive balcony area makes for an exquisite setting for evening barbecues, or even just a quiet glass of Tasmanian cider or wine while the sun sets over the nearby Hartz Mountains.

You can spend your hours soaking in the natural stone outdoor bath, which hangs privately above the sheltered sands of Eggs and Bacon Bay Beach. You can even watch the kids play in safety below, with the beach rated in the very safest category by the Surf Life Saving Club of Australia.

Fancy a spot of fishing? A dingy and life jackets are provided for your use anytime to help you catch one of the many fish (often perch, cod or flathead) for dinner. The bay is also a very popular spot for spearfishing (with flounder a common catch), given the shallow waters allow for wading a long way offshore.

This is your view, your bathtub. Yes, really…

Welcome to Elsewhere. Somewhere, but like nowhere else.

In 1793, French explorer Bruny d'Entrecasteaux gave Port Cygnet its name, after the plethora of swans he saw in the area. An incredibly quiet sanctuary and a beautiful place to drop anchor, Cygnet progressively became a thriving hub for wooden boat craftsmen.

Today, the sailing culture is still deeply embedded in the DNA of the area, as are the orchardist and grower vibes, which see the area’s apples and cherries exported globally in the thousands of tonnes every year.

A peaceful 15 minute drive along the coast, and you’ll descend into the cliff-lined alcoves of Randalls Bay and Eggs and Bacon Bay, with Garden Island resting peacefully a few hundred metres offshore.

Elsewhere is the only “sand-front” accommodation in the area and faces directly into the northern sun. Formerly the town hall of nearby Woodbridge, the building was in fact relocated to Eggs and Bacon Bay several decades ago, later becoming the quiet abode that it is today. The home itself is approximately 80 years old, but obviously with some creature comforts added in the recent years.
